BIRATNAGAR, Feb 6: The Province 1 government has decided to set up isolation wards in six hospitals of the region.

An all-party meeting chaired by Hikmat Bahdur Karki, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Province 1, decided to set up isolation beds in six different hospitals of the province.

According to Minister Karki, isolation beds will be set up in Koshi Zonal Hospital in Biratnagar, Mechi Zonal Hospital in Bhadrapur, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan, B and C Hospital in Birtamod, and Birat Medical College and Nobel Medical College in Biratnagar.

The meeting has also decided to manage food supplies in the districts which have been affected by the closure of border between Nepal and China. The provincial government has taken serious note of the shortage of food caused by the border lockdown due to fears of coronavirus outbreak in China. Chief district officers of Taplejung and Sankhuwasabha districts have been directed to manage smooth supply of food as the northern districts are more affected by the short-supply. The CDOs are also directed to report about the situation to the ministry.

Karki further said that officials in Biratnagar and Bhadrapur airports, and different border areas have been ordered to stay in highly alert to detect suspicious passengers who might be infected with the virus. During the meeting, the participants said that health equipment should be managed in the province.

In the meantime, health experts said that negative news has been spreading about coronavirus. “Coronavirus is like common cold, so people should not worry. They should follow precautionary measures,” they said.
