Revenue officials took control over bill book, ledger and other financial documents of Shree Traders owned by Santosh Kumar Gupta. They also raided Paneru Traders, Bhrikuti Foods Warehouse, Gupta Stores, Shah Stores and a furniture dealer.
Of them, the IRO claimed that Paneru Traders and Bhrikuti Foods Warehouse had manipulated their transaction records to escape registration at VAT. “We will slap fines against them as per the VAT Act, and also instruct them to register with VAT and operate with VAT bills,” said a source.
IRO Chitwan has stepped up market inspections after it found that the traders had been widely flouting tax laws and evading taxes. Traders, on the other hand, have vented ire against the actions taken by the IRO. They said the IRO move was unfair.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office (DAO) conducted a sudden inspection of fuel stock at Astabhuja Petrol Pump in Hakimchowk and collected a sample for laboratory testing after it received complaints that the pump was selling sub-standard fuel.
“We have already dispatched a sample of fuel to the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) for test. If the test´s result verified the case of adulteration, we will take strong action against the pump,” said an official.
