IPPF Director General Bermejo visiting Nepal from April 30

KATHMANDU, April 28: The director general of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), Dr Alvaro Bermejo, will be visiting Nepal beginning from April 30.  

According to the Federation, during the five-day visit concluding on May 4, Dr Bermejo is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal along with senior representatives of the government to discuss the national Sexual & Reproductive Health policy landscape, extending appreciation for the strides made by Nepal in ensuring universal and equitable access to good quality and comprehensive SRH services, while also discussing strategies to close the existing gaps between policy and practice. 

He will observe the program of their Member Association - The Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN)- a leading NGO devoted to SRHR in Nepal for the last 64 years. 

In addition to this, he will also participate in a dialogue on the changing needs and challenges with community leaders from the LGBTI+, persons living with disabilities, and PLHIV networks from the country and meet with in-country representatives of multilateral and UN Agencies like WHO, UNFPA,UNAIDS and media persons.

IPPF is a leading global non-governmental organization which is both a healthcare provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all, in more than 189 countries. 

It supports the FPAN to implement programs for its diverse target groups that include the poor, marginalized, socially-excluded and underserved (PMSEU) people, including sex workers, people living with HIV (PLHIV), LGBTIQ / sexual minorities, people who inject drugs (PWID), migrant workers, GBV survivors, disabled, urban slum dwellers and vulnerable young people, women and young girls, it is said.
