IOM topper awarded

KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Dr Kalyan Mani Dixit Memorial Trust is continuing the legacy of the late doctor by carrying out philanthropic works long after his demise. The trust awarded gold medal and Rs 10,000 to MS degree topper in ENT faculty, Dr Rabin Acharya, from the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Maharajgunj.



The trust also felicitated different individuals on Wednesday for their contribution to the welfare of people with hearing loss to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of Dr Kalyan Mani Dixit, who himself was hard of hearing.[break]



Speaking at a function organized at the TU Teaching Hospital, ENT department chief Dr Bimal Kumar Sinha said that Dr Dixit himself had a hearing loss so he could understand the problems of such people better and had contributed a lot to the welfare of people with hearing loss while he was still alive.



"Dr Dixit was the first person in the country to undergo cochlear implant and had contributed a lot for the welfare of people with hearing impairment," said Dr Sinha.



Besides the award, the trust has been providing scholarship to students with hearing impairment every year. The recipients of this year´s scholarships were Bipana Gurung, Sagar Shrestha, Hari Krishna Manandhar, Chandrawati Dulal and Srijana Timsina. Each of them received Rs 2,000 each.

 

In addition, five people with hearing impairment received hearing aids worth Rs 30,000 from the trust, according to Treasurer Bhim Bahadur Adhikari.



Likewise, Dambaru Prasad Gautam was felicitated for imparting education students with hearing impairment for over 25 years while Primary Eye Care Center, Lahan was honored by the trust for its “significant contribution to preventing deafness”.
