The day will also see the launch of 'Yoga Sandesh', a book incorporating articles on yoga written by various yoga scholars.
Speaking at the press meet held at Nepal-Bharat Library last Wednesday, Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae said, "Through this program, we attempt to make people understand the importance of yoga for daily life and its power in solving our day to day problems."
On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga upon Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recommendation. The reason for suggesting June 21 as the preferred date was because "it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has a special significance in many parts of the world."
"We learned with tremendous happiness that 177 countries along with Nepal and India supported the proposal in the UN General Assembly. Along with us, all of these countries will be celebrating the International Yoga Day in their own ways," shared Rae.
International Yoga Day will also be celebrated at New Banquet Hall, Hotel Vishuwa in Birgunj, and at Community Center in Biratnagar on June 21. While the events in Kathmandu and Birgunj are open to all, only invitees will be given access to the Biratnagar event.
