October 4 floods trigger Rs 3.26 billion in insurance claims

Non-life insurance companies have received insurance claims worth Rs 3.26 billion against the damages caused by floods of October 4.

KATHMANDU, Oct 20: Non-life insurance companies have received insurance claims worth Rs 3.26 billion against the damages caused by monsoon-induced disasters on October 4.



The incessant rainfall two weeks ago inflicted massive physical damages across the country. According to the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA), non-life insurers received a total of 704 claims as of last Thursday.

Of the total claims, 364 claims were related to property insurance, worth Rs 2.70 billion. Likewise, engineering and contract risk insurances triggered liabilities worth Rs 480.04 million to insurers.


A total of 209 claims were related to agriculture insurance, which accounted for Rs 43.26 million. Forty two claims worth Rs 35.7 million were against vehicle damages.


Shikhar Insurance received 54 claims for the coverage of Rs 609.4 million. Siddhartha Premier received 68 claims of Rs 506.4 million, followed by NLG Insurance with 43 claims worth Rs 504.7 million.
