SURKHET, July 14: Private and Boarding Schools’ Organization (PABSON), Karnali chapter has decided to resume classes in the schools within Karnali Province from July 17.

Regular classes of grades 9 and 10 will be conducted in the first phase, replacing the virtual classes that are being conducted amid the global pandemic of novel coronavirus disease, according to Nainsingh Khatri, Karnali PABSON chairman.

Physical classes will be run as most students from Karnali do not have easy access to distance education. “We will resume classes maintaining the social distance,” said Khatri. He added that the classes are all set to start upon the request by students and guardians.

To ensure safety against COVID-19, only fifteen students will be kept in a class with one student on a bench. Similarly, soap and water will be provided in every class, temperature test of every student before entering into the school premises and sanitizing the school area are other precautionary measures.

Chairman of PABSON Surkhet, Bed Prakash Dhakal said that the regular classes will be conducted by adopting safety precautions as studies have been impacted by the prolonged lockdown. “We have planned to run classes three hours a day,” said Dhakal. Students are required to bring drinking water for them on their own.

There are 77 institutional schools in Karnali Province that run classes upto grade 10. Of them, 54 schools are in Surkhet while there are seven in Rukum West, five in Salyan, four in Jumla, two each in Dailekh and Mugu, and one each Kalikot, Dolpa and Humla.
