A source said Sharma was ranked eighth among 58 police inspectors in the performance appraisal of Nepal Police, but the Home Ministry did not promote him as punishment for his involvement in arresting the Maoists. [break]
A police source claimed that Inspector General of Police Kuber Singh Rana himself had instructed against promoting Sharma.
Inspector Sharma expressing his dissatisfaction at the promotions said he was treated unfairly as many of his juniors have been promoted.
“I was just doing by duty as a policeman to serve the public. If I had done anything wrong against the police rules and regulations, then I should have been punished accordingly. While working to assist the victims, I have myself been victimized," he said, adding, "I had never imagined that my promotion would be halted."
Sharma had a few weeks ago arrested five Maoists allegedly involved in murdering Thapa. One of the arrested also made a shocking confession to police that Thapa was buried alive after abduction.
