Security personnel guarded the police office as the woman who alleged that she had been raped demonstrated in front of the office with relatives and women´s rights activists.
The District Police Office, Sunsari, said that Giri was arrested on charges of raping a girl on Sunday night. According to a complaint filed, an inebriated Giri raped Rupa Gurung on Sunday night.
The girl and her relatives obstructed a road in Dharan for about 20 minutes, demanding action against Giri.
Giri was transferred to Dharan from the District Police Office in Khotang three months ago.
