Injured passengers allege negligence in treatment

DAILEKH, June 11: Injured passengers in Wednesday´s bus accident on the Karnali Highway have complained that they were driven out of the hospital without completion of their treatment. The six injured, who were recuperating at the regional hospital in Surkhet, were sent back home while their treatment was still going on.



Relatives of the injured passengers have complained to the distinct administration office about this. According to them, the injured were admitted to the district hospital in Dailekh for the remainder of their treatment. The relatives accused the origional hospital of negligence in releasing the injured passengers without completing their treatment. [break]



“They sent us home telling us to take medication and rest at home,” said Lal Bir BK, one of the injured. “After reaching home he had problems with his injury and once again went to hospital for treatment,” he added.



At a meeting the chief district officer, the injured passengers complained about negligence on the part of the hospital.



Meanwhile, the Mid-West Bus Entrepreneur Association has said that it would support the treatment of the injured in full.



A meeting was held with the participation of families of the accident victims, the Bus Entrepreneurs Association and representatives of political parties to sort out the problem. The meeting reached an agreement to provide Rs 100,000 as insurance money to each family of those killed in the bus accident. The families had been demanding Rs 600,000 as compensation.



The meeting also agreed to provide free bus rides for the rest of their lives for family members of those killed. The victims´ families had been organizing strikes at various places along the highway for the last four days, demanding compensation.



Six people were killed and 40 others injured when a bus skidded off Karnali Highway and plunged into the Karnali River on Wednesday morning
