KATHMANDU, July 15: The recent floods in Yangri and Indrawati rivers in Sindhupalchowk district caused significant damage to the Indrawati III Hydropower Project.

The dam at Tipeni of Panchpokhari, which is part of the 7.5 MW project, was filled with sand, leading to the destruction of the substation and powerhouse. As a result, power supply has been disrupted in most of the district’s electoral constituency No.2, and the road from Pitekhola to Tipeni has been blocked.

This has created challenges for patients due to the lack of alternative roads leading to the area.

In addition to the damage to the hydropower project, the floods also washed away the suspension bridge and Yangri Bridge connecting Chinde Jatan. Furthermore, agricultural land along the banks of the Yangri and Indrawati rivers has been swept away, and several settlements, including Chinipul, Majhirumti, Tipeni, Khasrebalawa, and Khaldekhola, are now vulnerable to floods and landslides.

Moreover, the 'Bailey Bridge' built last year in Melamchi, which connects Melamchi, Indrawati, and Panchpokhari, is also at risk.

Similarly, the newly constructed bus park, playground, and an under-construction covered hall in Melamchi are prone to flooding.

The 'Bailey Bridge' at Khagdal Stream, connecting Bahrabise Municipality-3 and 5 along the Arniko Highway, has also been washed away by floods.
