KATHMANDU, July 18: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba over his success to win vote of confidence in parliament on Sunday evening.
Shortly after he garnered 165 votes in the 271-member House of Representatives, Indian Prime Minister Modi took to twitter to congratulate Prime Minister Deuba. "Congratulations Prime Minister @DeubaSherbdr and best wishes for a successful tenure. I look forward to working with you to further enhance our unique partnership in all sectors, and strengthen our deep-rooted people-to-people ties," he tweeted.
Indian Prime Minister Modi is the first world leader to congratulate Deuba after his sucess to secure of vote of confidence in the lower house of the federal parliament. Deuba was appointed as new prime minister on Tuesday as per Article 76(5) of the constitution following Supreme Court's decision to reinstate parliament and issue mandamus to appoint Deuba as new prime minister.
