India clinches SAFF U-15 Championship; defeats Nepal by 2-1

KATHMANDU, August 27: India has defeated host Nepal by 2-1 to lift the trophy of SAFF U-15 Championship on Sunday.


In a final match played at ANFA complex, Satdobato, Nepal took lead in first half of the match through with a penalty goal by Birjesh Kumar Chaudhary in 41st minute after Ranjan Pun was brought down inside the box. However, the lead could not be maintained in the second half as Lalrokima of India scored the equalizer in the 59th minute.

Indian captain Bikram Pratap Singh scored the decisive goal in the 75th minute making it 2-1 for the visiting side.


India had defeated Nepal by the same scoreline in the group stage clash. Nepal lost both the game against the same opponent.
