MAHOTTARI, Aug 19: The indefinite Madesh banda called by United Madhesi Front has severely affected general public life here in the district.

Cadres of the Front intensified their strike today following the death of Rajib Raut, a protester, in Bhardaha, Saptati on Tuesday.Commuters have suffered a lot due to absence of public transport that have remained off the roads due to the strike. Furthermore, daily wage earners have been the hardest hit.

Leaders and cadres of the parties affiliated to the Front have been organizing demonstrations in the district headquarters Jaleswor to make the banda successful.

They protested the death of Raut by burning tyres in different places of Jaleshwor including Mahendra Chwok, Shankar Chwok and Khaira Chwok.

Protesters also clashed with police at Mahendra chwok of the Jaleshwor for brief period.

Market places, factories and industries have remained completely shut in the district. As a result, the locals have been forced to go to the nearby Indian market for daily essentials.

Madhes-based parties have been protesting against the six-province model floated by four major parties as new federal structure of the country.
