DHANKUTA, Jan 18: The local administration has imposed indefinite curfew in the district from this morning. The local administration took the decision to control the situation after the protestors set a fire in various government offices of the districts since Thursday morning.
According to Chief District Officer Prem Prakash Uprety, the situation in the district slipped out of control following the clash between the police and the protestors who opposed the decision of the government to fix Biratnagar as the temporary capital of Province 1.
Clashes between the agitators and the police took place in various places of the district since Thursday morning. The riot group torched in CDO office, land revenue office and other government offices. They pelted stones in an ambulance and the fire engine of Dhankuta Municipality which was on its way to put off the fire of the CDO office. Seven people are reported to be injured.
The local administration has beefed up the security system in the district and has deployed a large number of the security personals. The government had decided Biratnagar as the temporary capital of the Province 1. The locals are demanding the government to declare Dhankuta as the capital of the province.
