Increased egg prices take effect from today

KATHMANDU, Feb 4: The price of eggs has risen in the domestic market, with the increase in egg consumption.


Binod Pokharel, President of the Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association (NLPFA), said that this new price has been brought into effect from today.


According to Pokharel, the price of eggs has been increased from a minimum of Rs 15 to a maximum of Rs 30 per crate. With the increase in price, large eggs will now cost Rs 400, medium eggs Rs 385 and XL eggs Rs 415.

Earlier, small eggs could be bought at Rs 370 per crate followed by medium at Rs 355 and XL at Rs 385. This is the price that farmers get. As the price that farmers get increases, the consumer price will also increase slightly.


Deepak Kunwar, the operator of Lumbini Egg Suppliers, said that the consumer price has increased by Rs 20 to 30 per crate. According to Kunwar, the current price of large eggs for consumers has been set at Rs 470 per crate, Rs 450 for medium eggs, and Rs 490 for XL.


Earlier, the price of large eggs for consumers was fixed at Rs 440 per crate, the price of medium eggs at Rs 420 per crate and Rs 460 for XL eggs.


He said that the consumers have to pay Rs 20 for one egg. Earlier, each egg cost Rs 20. Despite slight fluctuations in the price, the cost of per eggs has not changed.
