KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Minister of Energy Posta Bahadur Bogati said on Tuesday  the load-shedding hours can be reduced down to five hours daily if the existing electricity tariff is increased.

The Nepal Electricity Authority has frequently been stating  that the current load-shedding duration of daily six hours might be increased up to 16 hours during the winter.

Addressing a program in the capital, Minister Bogati argued that increase in electricity tariff  would enable Nepal to import more electricity from India.

"We can import 100 megawatt of electricity from India, if we increase electricity tariff in the domestic market," Bogati said, adding that more electricity can also be generated from thermal and diesel plants.
