During the meeting, Sy declared that IFRC would treble its assistance to Nepal, stating the IFRC has been working in partnership and cooperation with the Nepal Red Cross Society.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala shared that the country suffered heavy damages due to the lack of the required knowledge, institutional framework, human resources and other means and resources to face such disasters. He said a separate special mechanism is to be set up to deal with such calamities, Prakash Adhikari, the Prime Minister's press advisor, stated in a press release today.
While appreciating the humanitarian assistance provided by the IFRC in the disaster situation in Nepal, PM Koirala said Nepal would need additional support from all its supporters in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.
In the meeting, the IFRC official suggested bolstering the national capability by putting in place the institutional mechanisms, the legal framework and the required human resources along with the recovery works. He said it was also important to keep the means and resources for facing disasters in ready position. RSS
