KATHMANDU, Jan 11: Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has said that he has instructed the police to arrest ‘fugitive’ lawmaker Lakshmi Mahato, who was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from CPN-UML.
Answering the queries of journalists at a tea reception organized by Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) on Wednesday, Home Minister Lamichhane said that he has instructed the police to arrest MP Mahato, who is accused of killing a police officer during the Madhes Movement in 2016 .

On Tuesday, MP Mahato was present when Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal took the vote of confidence. Mahato voted in favor of the prime minister.
On Wednesday, journalists asked Home Minister Lamichhane why he could not arrest the fugitive who was present in Parliament. In response, he said, "I didn't realize it. Later, when I learnt about it through the media, I called the IGP and gave instructions to arrest Mahato.”
MP Mahato is accused of being involved in the lynching of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Armed Police Force (APF) Thaman BK during the Madhes Movement. BK, who was being rushed to hospital in an ambulance after he was severely injured in a clash with protestors, was dragged out of the ambulance and killed in cold blood by a mob which included Mahato.
