Hosts Prime win openers

KATHMANDU, Oct 31: Prime, NCCS, Goldengate A, VS Niketan won their opening matches in the boys´ category of the Seventh Prime Cup+2 (U-19) Basketball Championship on Saturday. [break]



Hosts Prime thrashed Xavier 39-32 in the match played at the Court of Prime College. Hosts dominated the first quarter by 22-8. Xavier came back in rest of the quarters by 7-6, 7-6 and 10-5 but they had to pay the price for their lackluster performance in the first quarter.



Mausam Gurung scored highest 19 points for the Prime. Likewise, Bern Hardt beat NCCS with the final score of 40-36. In the first quarter of the match, NCCS scored 10 points against the 4 of Bern Hardt. However, they missed rhythm in the last three quarters. Bern Hardt maintained the score sheet of 10-8, 8-8 and 18-10 in the last three quarters to win the match. Bikesh Shrestha scored 13 points in the win of Bern Hardt.



Ullens´ boys suffered a humiliating defeat against Goldengate A as the final score was 62-29. Goldengate controlled all the four quarters with the score of 19-6, 20-9, 14-6 and 9-8 respectively. Bikram Dangol scored 26 points for Goldengate.



Meanwhile, VS Niketan defeated Goldengate B by a narrow margin with the score of 45-44. Goldengate was in control in the first half with the score of 25-21 but they lost the tempo in the third quarter. VS Niketan scored 12 in the third quarter while Goldengate could not score any. In the fourth quarter, Goldengate bounced back with the score of 19-12 but remain one sort of Niketan in the final score.



Likewise, CPS thrashed Whitefield with the score of 50-19 in the last match of the day.



In the girls´ class, Prime and National won the opening day matches. Hosts Prime beat NCCS at the score of 18-5 while National defeated Ullens by the close margin of 13-11.
