DHANUSA, Nov 9: Home Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Balkrishna Khand has said that Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba should be ensured victory as the president of the party for another term by its forthcoming 14th General convention.

At a greetings exchange program organized in Dhanusha on Monday, Home Minister Khand stressed the need that the same person should hold both the positions of prime minister and party president so that it would be easy to run the government and the party effectively. It helps avoid internal haggling, he added.

"The problem of citizenship in Madhes is a problem of the country. The government will address this issue by bringing an Act rather than working as per an ordinance," he said, arguing that various bills including that of citizenship were stalled in parliament as the major opposition CPN-UML has continued obstructing parliament’s business.

The home minister, however, vowed that the government would solve the problem by endorsing the bill on citizenship. He also urged the UML to stop obstruction in parliament.

Moreover, he said the government was committed to ensuring security to the people as it is the top priority of the government

On a different note, he mentioned that the judiciary, executive and parliament are independent institutions. The problem in the judiciary has to end soon, he underlined.
