Home Minister Lekhak clarifies no bias in NUP patron Resham Chaudhary's arrest

“I would like to request before this parliament that there was no bias in the incident, except for the intention to implement the law with good faith,” he said.

KATHMANDU, May 8: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has addressed the parliament regarding the arrest of Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) Patron Resham Chaudhary, who was arrested on April 30 and released the same day.


Lawmakers raised concerns, stating that the incident had raised serious questions about the country’s legal system, and demanded a response from the Home Minister. In his reply, Minister Lekhak clarified that there were no biases involved in Chaudhary's arrest and the law was enforced without any prejudice.

“I would like to request before this parliament that there was no bias in the incident, except for the intention to implement the law with good faith,” he said.


He also stated that efforts would be made to raise awareness and caution everyone to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.


On April 30, Chaudhary, who had arrived at the venue of the party unification announcement in Nepal Academy with the Janamat Party, was arrested by the police. The police were handed the arrest warrant for Chaudhary by the Branch Officer of the Supreme Court, Mahinan Singh Bista.
