KATHMANDU, May 5: Lalbir Chaudhary, a Member of Parliament from the Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP), has demanded a response from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister regarding the recent arrest and same-day release of his party’s patron, Resham Chaudhary.

Speaking during Monday's session of the House of Representatives, MP Chaudhary questioned the government over the incident, citing that Resham Chaudhary was arrested based on a letter from Mahiman Singh Bista, a section officer of the Supreme Court (SC). He further pointed out that the SC later declared the letter unauthorized, leading to Resham's release, and demanded clarification from the government on this matter.

Speaking in Parliament, Chaudhary said, “Mahiman Singh Bista issued the letter that led to Resham’s arrest, and the SC has labeled it fake. Yet, the government has not made any statement. If the Prime Minister and Home Minister fail to respond in this very House by tomorrow, we will be forced to quit the government.”

Police had arrested Resham Chaudhary on April 30 and detained him for about five hours at Dillibazar Prison. Meanwhile, Bista, the court employee who wrote the unauthorized letter, has been arrested and is under investigation with court approval.
