Holder VS Niketan crashes out

KATHMANDU, June 16: Defending champion VS Niketan crashed out of the Fourth White House Cup U-19 National Basketball Championship after a 47-16 defeat to National Campus on Thursday.



With the victory, National advanced into the quarterfinals along with Triton College, Prime College, Kaski, Morgan International, NIMS, Sunsari and the host White House.[break]



In the first match of the day in men´s category, National dominated throughout winning all four quarters 6-2, 17-7, 13-5, 11-2 against holder VS Niketan at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. Manish Tamang scored 12 points for the winning team.



In another match, Kunga Sherpa scored 26 points as Triton eased past Times 66-29. Triton won the first three quarters 22-9, 15-10, 23-2 to take a 39-point lead. Times fought back to take the last quarter 8-6 but it was too little too late. Triton will face National in the quarterfinals.



Prime thrashed CCRC 63-22 to set up a quarterfinal clash with Kaski. Prime won all four quarters 20-2, 15-7, 18-2, 10-6 en route to a comprehensive win. Siddhartha Maharjan scored 17 points.



Meanwhile, Kaski routed Kavre 57-18 with the help of 16 points from Bishal Gurung. Kaski took control of the match from the start and won the first quarter 12-6. Kaski took the remaining quarters 16-2, 16-2, 13-8.



Morgan defeated Golden Gate 55-25 riding on 23 points from Sujan Pun. Morgan took all four quarters 9-3, 19-7, 9-3, 18-12. Morgan will next face the host White House, which beat G-4 Samakhushi 61-35. White House won the first two quarters 11-5, 13-2. G-4 fought back in the third quarter for a 14-14 draw but White House sealed the match after taking the last quarter 18-12. Ritesh Subedi scored 14 points for White House.



In another match, NIMS struggled to a 57-47 win against Trinity. The first quarter ended 13-13 but NIMS slumped to a 11-18 defeat in the second quarter. However, NIMS edged past Trinity 12-11 in the third quarter and easily won the last quarter 21-5 for victory. Jeevan Bhattarai scored 27 points for the winning team.



In the last match of the day, Marshal Rai scored 16 points as Sunsari beat Myagdi 45-19 to enter the last eight.
