First National ID card holder dies

PHIDIM, April 15: The first national identity card holder in the country, Bhagawati Devi Bhandari of Shantipur of Phidim Municipality-4 in Panchthar district, died on Friday.

PHIDIM, April 15: The first national identity card holder in the country, Bhagawati Devi Bhandari of Shantipur of Phidim Municipality-4 in Panchthar district, died on Friday.


The 102-year-old was suffering from asthma. Her relative Surya Adhikari confirmed the death of Bhandari and shared her final rites were performed at Hawa Ghat in Phidim on Friday itself.

She is survived by her two sons and a daughter.


The distribution of the national ID card had kicked off in the country by handing over her the card by Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa amidst a programme on November 19, 2018.


Furthermore, the collection of biological and other personal details of Nepali citizen had started by collecting the details of Bhandari in June last year. Works are being carried on as per the government’s target to distribute the national ID card to 110,000 people in Panchthar and 7,000 government employees in the Singha Durbar. RSS
