Home Minister calls meeting to coordinate govt response to those affected by flood and landslides across the country

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: The incessant rainfall since Thursday has severely impacted vehicular traffic and normal life of people in several parts of Kathmandu Valley, with waterlogged roads and floods creating significant disruptions.

Key areas including Tinkune, Garigaon, Buddhanagar, Lalitpur, UN Park, Bishnumati Corridor in Teku, Maitighar, Nayabato, Gwarko, Imadol, Paropkar Kendra, Sanepa, Kalopul and Balkhu are experiencing traffic slowdowns due to waterlog.

The situation has worsened outside the Valley, where landslides have blocked major road sections.

Floodwater is flowing over the bridge meant for four-wheelers in several road sections in Kathmandu Valley. Police officials said the roads along the rivers have been completely submerged by the swelling rivers.

Floodwaters have entered the houses and shops along the roads, displacing hundreds of people living in the area.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has convened a meeting of the Central Security Committee to discuss the natural disasters caused by the incessant rainfall including floods and landslides.

The secretariat has announced that the meeting has been called to discuss topics such as relief, rescue, and assistance for the citizens affected by the disaster.

The meeting was called for 10:30 AM.
