KATHMANDU, October 12: The hearing on appointment of 80 judges of different high courts, who were appointed nine months ago, has been deferred.

The court administration postponed the hearing following Justice Dambar Bahadur Shahi, who had administered the oath of office and secrecy to the judges, was assigned to deal with the case.

Supreme Court Justices Om Prakash Mishra, Cholendra Shumsher JBR and Shahi were assigned to conduct hearing on the case.

The judge appointment courted controversy after members of the Judicial Council, the body responsible for appointing judges to court, and Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli criticized the appointment decision, saying that it was made in ‘mid-night’.

The high court judges were appointed under erstwhile Chief Justice Sushila Karki.
