Health Ministry directs hospitals to pay nurses salaries equal to government scale

According to MoHP Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, a circular has been issued to all government hospitals, medical colleges, community and private hospitals to implement this provision.

KATHMANDU, Oct 13: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has directed all hospitals and medical institutions to ensure that the minimum salaries and benefits of nurses and other health workers are not lower than those provided by the government.



According to MoHP Spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki, a circular has been issued to all government hospitals, medical colleges, community and private hospitals to implement this provision. He said the directive was issued agai after receiving complaints that the earlier order had not been fully implemented in several institutions.

Currently, nurses at Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara are staging protests demanding payment in line with the government-prescribed minimum salary scale.


The  has also instructed hospitals to provide additional allowances for overtime work and to refrain from hiring staff on a daily wage basis. Institutions have been directed not to withhold original academic certificates of employees and to pay all salaries through the banking system.
