KATHMANDU, April 29: FIDE master Manish Hamal, a Butwal native, has returned to Mumbai to participate in the Mumbai Mayors´ Cup International Chess Tournament. Four Nepali players--Manish Hamal, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Surbir Lama and Balaram Napit--had returned from Mumbai after quitting the tournament on Sunday, dissatisfied over the lodgings they were provided. The organizer, Mumbai Chess Association, had asked the Nepal Chess Association to take disciplinary action against the players following their withdrawal from the tournament without their informing the organizers. The organizers have also pressured the NCA to send other players.

On Tuesday, the NCA sent four other players to Mumbai--Deepak Maharjan and Purusottam Chaulagain from Kathmandu, and Niraj Niraula and Prakash Nepal from Jhapa.

Hamal, fearing punishment, decided to return to Mumbai after the original four members of the team met with Purusottam Chaulagain and Deepak Maharjan in Butwal.

The organizers have warned that they will send letters to the supreme body of World Chess, FIDE, to take disciplinary action against the four Mumbai-returnees.
