Gurung, who holds six national records, clinched gold medals in 400m freestyle (4 minutes 49.50 seconds), 100m backstroke (1 minute 14.03 seconds), 200m butterfly (2 minutes 39.70 seconds) and 100m freestyle (1 minute 0.69 second).[break]
Oshina Bharati of Dhumbarahi leads the table with three gold medals and a silver in the women´s category. She won gold in 200m individual medley (3 minutes 2 seconds), 100m butterfly (1 minute 32.93 seconds) and 50m backstroke (40.22 seconds). She finished behind Anjali Syangbo (33.72 seconds) of Starfish Swimming Club in the 50m freestyle event. Shila Gurung of Lalit Krishna Marigold Club took the third position.
Devesh Manandhar of Rotary Club, Durbar Marg took silver in men´s 400m freestyle while Jayanta Prasad Gurung of Lalit Krishna secured bronze. Likewise, Dilip Thapa Magar of Nepal Army Club and Miraj Prajapati of Dhumbarahi Swim Club finished second and third respectively in men´s 100m backstroke. Kabindra Thapa Magar and Janak Rai of Army took silver and bronze in men´s 200m butterfly. Prajapati of Dhumbarahi and Manandhar of Rotary finished second and third in 100m freestyle of men´s section.
Banin Sensha Shrestha of Dhumbarahi won the men´s 50m breaststroke event clocking 35.03 seconds while Pravesh Adhikari of Annapurna Club and Laxmi Limbu of Bull Club finished second and third. Rupak Chaudhary of Army clinched gold in men´s 200m breaststroke clocking 3 minutes. Sensha Shrestha and Manish Chitrakar of Dhumbarahi took second and third positions. Meanwhile, Chitrakar of Dhumbarahi won the men´s 50m butterfly clocking 29.82 seconds. Govinda Karki of Annapurna finished second in the event.
Shila Gurung of Lalit Krishna bagged two gold medals. She won the women´s 200m freestyle clocking 3 minutes 6.06 seconds and the 200m backstroke event with a time of 3 minutes 10.63 seconds. Eva Kafle of Lalit Krishna took silver in 200m freestyle while Phurba Phuti Sherpa of Little Angels´ Club secured bronze. Similarly, Rashika Paudel of Rotary Club and Yangchen Lama of Little Angels´ secured silver and bronze in the 200m backstroke event.
Sonarika Bista of Annapurna won the women´s 100m breaststroke clocking 1 minute 32.60 seconds. Bista´s younger sister Sabbu finished second while Asma Tamang of Rotary took bronze.
The championship features swimmers from 20 different clubs, including 73 in men´s open, 42 in women´s open, and 15 male and seven female swimmers in veterans´ category. Earlier, National Sports Council Vice-president Pitambar Timalsina inaugurated the event.
