Gurkha soldier killed in Afghanistan cremated

ITAHARI, Nov. 9: The dead body of Bijaya Rai, 22, of Hansposa-2 of Sunsari district who was serving in the British Army has been brought at his hometown Wednesday.



Rai had died in a shootout in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, on October 15. [break]



Rai had joined the British Gurkha Regiment three years ago. Rai´s body was brought at home after 26 days of his death.



A team of Altan Devis, Lieutenant Colonel of the British Army, and top officials at the British Embassy, Kathmandu, had ferried Rai´s body and kept the body at his home for paying of last tributes.



The last rites of Rai were performed at the premises of the British Welfare Office, Dharan, with the high military honor.
