According to British Embassy in Kathmandu, the soldier was killed in the Nahr-e Saraj region of Helmand. The Embassy hadn´t name the killed soldier but said the next of kin of the Gurkha soldier have been informed.
The Embassy quoted Lt Col Gordon Mackenzie, a British Army spokesman for Task Force Helmand, to add that the soldier received a fatal gunshot wound when insurgent attacked the checkpoint his team was protecting.
´It is with great sadness that I announce that a soldier was killed during operations with Afghan Police partners to extend security in the Nahr-e Saraj," the spokesperson said.
He is the eighth British Gurkha soldier to be killed in Afghanistan. The number of British military deaths stands at 383.
