Group calls Kalikot shutdown starting Monday

JUMLA, March 10: Karnali Corridor Development Struggle Committee (KCDSC) on Sunday announced indefinite strike from Monday in Kalikot district stating that the government overlooked their demand for setting up Administrative Service Center, airport, and electrification among other things.



After completing their first round of protest, an all-party meeting on Sunday elected CPN-UML Kalikot district Chairman, Kurma Raj Shahi as the coordinator of KCDSC to further their second round of agitation.[break]



According to Shahi, they will shut down market place, transportation, schools and colleges and governmental and non-governmental offices from Monday. KCDSC has also accused the government of not providing compensations to the locals for the land acquisitioned for the Seri-Rachulli road section, ignoring the demand for linking the district with air transport and bringing electricity to the district among other things.



KCDSC has also demanded that the government start construction of Khulalu-Hilsa road section to join 17 VDC in the district and maintenance of the local Sannigad micro hydel project among other things.



The representatives of the 17 VDC across the Karnali River had gathered at the district headquarters Manma on Thursday and formed a 31-member KCDSC, which had also called a day-long strike in Kalikot on Friday.
