Govt to use private helicopters in local level election

KATHMANDU, April 23: The government has decided to use helicopters owned by private companies for the purpose of the local level election slated for May 13.

KATHMANDU, April 23: The government has decided to use helicopters owned by private companies for the purpose of the local level election slated for May 13. 


The government took the decision that the helicopters owned by private sectors could be used, if needed. The private helicopters would be used for transporting ballot papers and ballot boxes in the remote areas and for security arrangements in the poll centers.

A meeting between the government officials and representatives of various airline companies was held at the Home Ministry in this regard on Friday. 


Home Ministry Spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokhrel said if helicopters of private companies were needed for smooth and effective security arrangement in local level elections, the government will use them. Meanwhile, MI-17 helicopters belonging to Shree Airlines will be kept on standby for election purpose, the meeting decided.
