KATHMANDU, May 19: Prime Minister and Chair of Communist Party of Nepal KP Sharma Oli expressed that the Indian field office at Biratnagar would be removed ‘very soon’. 

Speaking at the newly constituted parliamentary party meeting at International conference building, New Baneshwor, PM Oli opined, “India is ready to revise 1950's treaty and the government will remove the Indian field office from of Biratnagar soon." On May 13, Oli said that the 1950 treaty was ‘humiliating’ and he expressed hopes to improve it.

The Indian Field Office was established at Biratnagar in August 2008 to issue passes for Nepali vehicles to use Indian land after a flood damaged the Koshi barrage. 

The then Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha had sent the letter for removal of the field office to Indian Embassy. However, the Indian Embassy denied complying with the order.

During the meeting, another Chair of CPN Puspa Kamal Dahal described the unification of two communist parties as an extraordinary episode. 

Addressing the meeting of the CPN parliamentary party at the Federal Parliament Building, New Baneshwor, Dahal said, “unification of CPN (UML) and the CPN (Maoist Center) has paved the way for taking ahead of the communist movement and to fulfill the journey of socialism in the new context.”

The meeting held today picked PM Oli as Parliamentary Party leader for the newly formed Communist Party of Nepal.
