Govt to mark Mangsir 1 as Nat'l Tax Day

KATHMANDU, Nov. 11: The government has decided to mark the first day of the month of Mangsir (November 16) as the first national tax day with a view to making people aware of the importance of tax system.



Information about this was shared at a press meet organised by the Inland Revenue Department here Sunday.



The theme of the tax day is "let´s talk about taxation at every house, pay tax and participate in nation´s building". The day will be observed throughout the week, it is learnt.



A 15-member national tax day-2012 main celebration committee has been formed under the convenorship of Department´s Director General Tankamani Sharma to make the celebrations successful.



According to committee convenor Sharma, private sectors, journalists and social organizations have been included in the committee.



Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai is scheduled to inaugurate the Tax Day celebrations by unveiling the strategic plans and reform programmes related to tax. Besides, Permanent Account Number (PAN) will be awarded to the ministers on the same occasion.



Morning rallies, the placement of hoarding boards reading slogans about the importance of tax payment at tax payers´ offices and discussions on the tax issues are some events to be held under the Day celebration.



This is the first time Nepal is observing the National Tax Day in 53-years history of the tax office. The celebration of the Tax Day is expected to a support in maintaining transparency and fairness in revenue administration.
