Govt to extend OHCHR mandate

KATHMANDU, June 6: The government on Sunday decided to extend the mandate for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights – Nepal (OHCHR) for a year.



According to Shankar Pokharel, the government spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communication, the cabinet meeting on Sunday made the decision.[break]



The mandate of the OHCHR-Nepal was set out in April, 2005.



The meeting also decided to immediately provide Rs 200,000 for food to the Raute community – the near-extinct race.
