Govt to boost private sector involvement in sports

To provide scholarships for medalist athletes and their families

KATHMANDU, May 2: The government has included plans to increase private sector participation in sports in the policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26, presented on Friday.



As part of the initiative, sports schools will be established in collaboration with federal, provincial, and local governments, as well as sports associations. Programs for training, coaching, and athlete participation will be launched at the school level.

The government also plans to ensure legal provisions for private sector involvement in building sports infrastructure, such as stadiums, in coordination with all three levels of government.


Additionally, sports will be linked to include social responsibility programs, and the government plans to modernize the Kirtipur-based Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground.


For international medal-winning athletes and their families, scholarship opportunities will be provided to support their education.
