Govt to accept WB assistance worth $30m

KATHMANDU, April 6: The government has decided to accept 30 million US dollar assistance offered by World Bank for the extension of Kabeli transmission line. A cabinet meeting held on Wednesday took a decision to this effect.



Kabeli transmission line project is a component of Electricity Crisis Management Action Plan formulated by the government in 2008 to address the worsening electricity supply in the country. The Kabeli Corridor is one of five priority transmission corridors identified in the Action Plan.[break]



According to government spokesperson Ganga Lal Tuladhar, the cabinet meeting also decided to accept Rs 2.24 billion assistance offered by European Union for Support to Stability and Peace project in Nepal.



Likewise, the cabinet meeting has decided to take loan worth Rs 17.75 billion from Indian Export Import Bank. The amount will be used for the implementation of various infrastructure development projects.



Among other things, the cabinet meeting decided to form a high-level committee under Supreme Court Justice Kalyan Shrestha to bring about timely amendment in criminal laws of the country.



The committee comprises attorney general and law secretary as its members.
