Govt tables MCC in parliament amid protest of UML and Maoist lawmakers

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: The government has tabled the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant agreement in parliament for ratification amid protest of lawmakers belonging to the main oppositoon party, CPN-UML, and ruling CPN (Maoist Center).


Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki tabled the MCC grant agreement in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting on Sunday, amid protests from UML and Maoist Center lawmakers.

Earlier, the ruling parties agreed to table the MCC grant agreement in parliament.


A meeting of the top leaders of the five ruling parties held in Baluwatar on Sunday morning decided to table the grant agreement in the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting today.


The Business Advisory Committee meeting held before the meeting of the House of Representatives decided to include the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant agreement in the agenda of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).


Information Minister Karki tabled the MCC agreement in parliament as the Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma is said to be resting at home due to some health problems. According to sources, Minister Sharma did not even visit the Ministry of Finance today due to health issues.
