Govt signs 5-point deal with backward communities

KATHMANDU, March 24: The government on Tuesday signed a five-point deal with Federation of Backward Communities, agreeing to form a committee for uplifting backward communities. In a talks held at the ministry of Peace and Reconstruction Tuesday afternoon, the government agreed to form a committee to address the demands raised by the committee, start a radio program in Magahi language, among others.



The community had called off its strikes imposed in eastern Tarai region on Monday to hold the talks with the government. Peace Minister Janardan Sharma and Local Development Minister Ram Chandra Jha participated in the talks from the government side, while Bharat Mahato of the community led a 15-member team of the agitating group.



On top of the demands of the Federation is the formation of a national commission to deal with the issues of the backward communities.
