JANAKPURDHAM, Sept. 22: Minister for Science, Technology and Environment Umakant Jha has said a process at the technical level has begun to purchase power from India to minimize the problem of power outage in the eastern region. [break]

Talking to media persons in Janakpur on Sunday, Minister Jha said the expansion of transmission line is underway to import 50 megawatts of electricity from India.

The expansion of transmission capacity is expected to be completed within a week and duration of power outage will come down by three hours once the expansion is over.

The government has intensified the task of addressing electricity problems in Janakpur, he added.

The minister said the government has a plan of diverting the Sunkoshi river at Marin and drop it into the Bagmati river for irrigation facilities in the Terai.

Around 125,000 hectares of land in Rautahat, Sarlahi, Mahottari and Dhanusha districts will be linked to an irrigation channel if the project is implemented, he added.
