KATHMANDU, Nov 21: The government has begun insuring public property. In the first phase, the Ministry of Finance has insured 20 four-wheeled vehicles.

Than Prasad Pangyani, chief of the Administration Division of the ministry, said that the insurance initiative was launched following a decision by the cabinet. “We have insured 20 vehicles in the first phase,” he said. The Cabinet, in its meeting on September 21, decided to insure government property and vehicles.

With this insurance, if government vehicles are damaged due to fire, accidents, or other causes, the government can now more easily claim insurance money to purchase new vehicles.

During the fire and vandalism incident on September 9, government structures and vehicles were damaged. Approximately 2,000 vehicles were burned, and because they were uninsured, the government was unable to claim compensation for the losses.
