Govt makes BRI deal reached with China public

Amid demand from various quarters to make the latest BRI deal public, the government has made public the ‘Framework for Belt and Road Cooperation’ agreement signed with China last week. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has published the agreement on its official website.

KATHMANDU, Dec 11: Amid demand from various quarters to make the latest BRI deal public, the government has made public the ‘Framework for Belt and Road Cooperation’ agreement signed with China last week. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has published the agreement on its official website. 


The agreement comprises six points. The first point outlines the background of the BRI agreement. The second point addresses the cooperation principles, the third focuses on the cooperation objectives and the fourth details the cooperation priorities. The fifth point lists the projects identified for negotiations, while the sixth describes the cooperation mechanism.

Three of the 12 pages of the agreement detail 10 projects to be implemented under the BRI.  The list of projects includes the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel, Hilsa-Simikot Road Project, Kimathanka-Khandbari Road, Kimathanka Bridge, and an Integrated Check Post. 


Additionally, the China-Nepal Interstate Railway, Amargadhi City Hall Project, Geelong-Rasuwagadhi-Chilime 220 kV Interstate Power Transmission Line, Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology, Kathmandu Scientific Center and Science Museum, China-Nepal Friendship Industrial Park, and Jhapa Sports and Athletics Complex have also been identified for implementation under the BRI.
