Govt forms committee to probe land seizure

KATHMANDU, April 4: The meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday decided to form a secretary-level committee to manage the lands occupied earlier by the former combatants of the Maoist party. The committee is formed considering the need of a land to set up the general directorate of Nepal Army.



The committee comprises the secretaries from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Home Ministry, Defense Ministry, and Ministries of peace, education, forest and soil conservation and the agricultures. It is given 15 days to submit the report.[break]



According to the meeting, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, and its member would get the facility equal to a Supreme Court Justice- a vehicle with driver and a bodyguard.



Similarly, the government decided to give responsibility to the Finance Secretary and Joint Secretary to accept Rs 4.2 billion to be provided by the World Climate Fund through the World Bank and sign on the contract accordingly.



The concerned secretary and joint secretaries would be authorized also to accept the Rs 4.2 billion assistance and sign on the contract. The assistance is being provided by the World Agriculture and Food Security Programme for the implementation of the programme on food security.



Spokesperson of the government Madhav Prasad Poudel said a Nepali delegation led by Finance Minister would attend an annual general meeting of the Asian Development Bank to be held in New Delhi from May 2-5.



Similarly, a delegation led by Joint-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry would participate in the Nepal-India Security Meeting to be held in Banglore, India.



Spokesperson Poudel further said Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) would be given the authority to use an agro-farm land of Dhunche for 50 years.



Rs 12 million would be released for making a programme effective being organized to mark the Glorious 60 Years of the Escalation of the Mt Everest.



The Ministry of Agriculture Development has been asked to expedite the bird flu control at Bahundagi of Jhapa district.



In response to a question, Spokesperson Poudel said the Election Commission has forwarded the Election Act for the amendment in view of the coming Constituent Assembly election.



He further said government would announce election date holding discussion with the political parties on the Election Act.
