KATHMANDU, Aug. 6: The government has approved a revised salary scale for civil servants, formally implementing the pay hike and incentive package announced in the budget for the current Fiscal Year (FY) 2026/27.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers endorsed the revised pay structure, which was prepared by the Ministry of Finance and forwarded to the Cabinet on July 22, before sending it for implementation.
Bill bars local units from recruiting civil servants
Under the new salary scale, the Chief Secretary will receive a monthly salary of Rs 90,594, while the lowest-paid employee—a first-class Office Assistant—will earn Rs 28,984 per month.
The Chief of Army Staff will receive the same monthly salary as the Chief Secretary at Rs 90,594, while the Inspector General of Police (IGP) will earn Rs 84,576 per month.
Through the budget for FY 2026/27, the government announced a 10 percent salary increase for civil servants along with a 10 percent incentive allowance. Retired government employees receiving pensions, however, will receive only a 10 percent pension increase, with no additional incentive allowance.
