KATHMANDU, Nov 3: Ministry of Finance has approved the purchase of 156 new vehicles for the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF), allocating an additional Rs 683.5 million for the procurement.
The decision follows damages to a significant number of police and APF vehicles during the Gen Z protest on September 8 and 9 when vehicles were destroyed and set on fire.

According to the finance ministry’s first quarter progress report for the fiscal year 2025/26 (mid-July to mid-October), the additional budget has been sanctioned to replace and strengthen operational capacity.
Out of the total, 100 pickup trucks and 6 prisoner vehicles will be purchased for the Nepal Police, with an additional Rs 453 million allocated. For the APF, funds will cover 20 pickups, 20 crowd-control vehicles, two ambulances, three disaster-rescue vehicles and five trucks, totaling Rs 230.5 million.
The finance ministry emphasized that the procurement is aimed at enhancing operational readiness and ensuring that both forces can effectively respond to emergencies, law enforcement and public safety duties.
