The inspection was carried out as per the instruction of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) - the constitutional anti-corruption watchdog. [break]
The team formed under the coordination of the Department of Commerce and Supply Management (DoCSM) had representations from CIAA, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DFTQC), District Administration Office Kathmandu, Nepal Police and consumer right activists.
It conducted inspection on Aqua Bagdwar Processed Drinking Water, Aqua Green Drinking Water manufactured by Spring Beverage, Three Brothers Oil Store, Valley Rikesh Suppliers, Unique Fuel Center, Namaste Oil Store, Shaktidevi Petrol Pump, Sita Care, Shyama Oil Stores, Baba Oil Stores, Jayshree Ganesh Oil Stores, Rajesh Hardware and Jagat Kumari Enterprises.
Pramod Koirla, spokesperson for DFTQC, said Aqua Bagdwar was found operating without acquiring license from the DFTQC. “Also the products of the company were lacking product information and expiry date. It was found bottling water in an unhygienic condition,” said Koirala.
Koirala said the team has sealed the plant and taken sample for lab test. “We have asked the owner of the firm to furnish clarifications at the department within three days,” he added.
The team also destroyed 16 cartons of Aqua Green drinking water as the product had flawed manufacturing date.
Binod Prakash Singh, deputy director general of DoCSM, said of the nine petrol pumps inspected on Tuesday, team found problems in fuel dispensers of six pumps.
A statement issued by DoCSM said the team found that fuel dispensers of Three Brothers Oil Store, Unique Fuel Center, Namaste Oil Store, Shaktidevi Petrol Pump, Sita Care and Shyama Oil were not giving accurate measurements.
The team has instructed owners of Three Brothers Oil Store to check and repair the nozzle of fuel dispenser. Similarly, it asked owners of Unique Fuel Center and Namaste Oil Store to distribute fuel only after calibrating their fuel dispensers.
The team found no anomaly at Baba Oil Stores, Valley Rikesh Suppliers and Jayshree Ganesh Oil Stores.
Similarly, the team has taken samples of Maruti Cement from Rajesh Hardware and Reliance Cement and Hama-Tech Cement from Jagat Kumari Enterprises for lab tests.
Govt stops supplying fuel to seven petrol pumps
