Govt administering Chinese COVID-19 vaccine from today

Vaccine to be inoculated to people between 40 to 59 years of age and staffers of public vehicles

KATHMANDU, April 13: The government has started inoculating China-made COVID-19 vaccine ‘Vero Cell’ from Tuesday.

This vaccine drive will be conducted till April 18, according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

In the current phase of COVID-19 vaccination campaign, Vero Cell is being inoculated to people of 40 to 59 years age group across the country. Drivers and their helpers of public vehicles are also being inoculated with the same vaccine.

Nepal had received a grant of 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from China.

Similarly, the government has announced to administer the second dose of COVID-19 vaccines from April 19 to April 22 to those who received the first shot of the vaccine from January 28 to February 22 earlier this year.

Earlier, the government had administered the first dose of Covishield vaccines to various frontline workers including health professionals, security personnel, government employees, journalists, officials of diplomatic missions, embassies and those working with the United Nations. 

People above 60 years of age and parliamentarians were also among those receiving the first dose of the Covishield vaccine.
