KATHMANDU, Sept 15: Dr Govinda KC, who has been demanding medical education reforms, has postponed his hunger strike for three months.

Earlier, he had announced that he would go for a fast-unto-death from August 14, but he postponed that fast until September 15 (i.e.) today.

He said that since the secretaries of the Ministry of Education and Health have asked for three months time to make legal arrangements to maintain the criteria for the appointment of officials in universities, to provide at least one government medical college or establishment in all provinces, the hunger strike has been postponed until then.

Dr KC has also welcomed the newly appointed Vice Chairman of the Medical Education Commission saying that he is away from party affiliations and conflicts of interest and is committed to fulfilling his official duties in accordance with the Medical Education Act and Regulations.

"All politicians, especially the top leaders of the main political parties in power and in the opposition, are being held unaccountable for their wrongdoings, and there seems to be no end to impunity in Nepal," stated Dr KC in a press release issued today. He called on responsible citizens to play a pivotal role in holding these leaders accountable.

Dr KC has urged the government to ensure the selection of qualified candidates free from conflicts of interest. He expressed concerns about certain applicants implicated in serious irregularities, proven corruption, and unsuccessful management of institutions.
